Bollywood actor Abhay Deol is considered as one of the most underrated actors in film industry. Recently, Abhay opened up about what went wrong in his career and how he doesn’t have any regrets about the choice he made. Interestingly, famous film director Anurag Kashyap also spilled the beans on how troublesome and painfully difficult it was working with Abhay in ‘Dev D’.
Talking about how things changed after the initial success of his movies, Abhay said to Huffpost India, “I was too bullish on the success behind me. I swindled myself into imagining that now the big players would put their money on me and experiment. Perhaps the very desire that they’d see things my way was my arrogance. I could have done better in my career, and I could have secured myself in a bigger manner. But I did not. And that was my decision. I don’t have any regrets.”
Though Anurag Kashyap, the director of Abhay Deol starrer ‘Dev D’ sharing his experience stated, “It was painfully difficult to work with him (Abhay). I don’t really have great working memories with him and since I finished shooting, I haven’t talked to him much”
Kashyap further included, “He wanted to do artistic films but also wanted the mainstream benefits. The advantages and luxuries of being a Deol, He would stay in a five-star hotel while the entire crew stayed in Paharganj for a film that was made on an extremely tight budget. Also the reason a lot of his directors went away from him.”
Released in 2009, the film ‘Dev D’ was the modern-day adaptation of the classic Bengali novel ‘Devdas’ by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Along with Abhay Deol this movie also starred Mahie Gill, Kalki Koechlin and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in a special appearance.
